THE PLACE, A COLLECTION OF CONTEMPORARY ART
The Place, a collection of Contemporary Art
A few words about the collection
The collection started in the late nineties feeded by the passion of a couple, Laura and Angelo, who initially were mentored by Laura's father Carlo, a collector of art for decades and a pioneer in collecting African art.
The first pieces of the collection were mainly from contemporary Italian artists. Subsequently, the collectors' vision of a borderless world, combined with their curiosity for travelling and discovering, led to the development of a collection reflecting an international landscape.
While pieces were initially hosted in the collectors' home, thus becoming an integral part of the their daily life, later on the need of a proper exhibition space became a priority.
Nowadays, some pieces of the collection are still housed in the collectors' home, in the countryside west of Florence-Italy, while others are exhibited in a former carpentry located in the wooden hills south of Florence.
Recently, a book describing in more details the collection and the owners' view about why collecting art has been edited. The current version of the book is in Italian, with only a small section in English, but it is in Laura's and Angelo's wishes that one day this book could be entirely translated, to share its contents with a numerous group of people who during the last decades have come in contact with the collectors, sharing thoughts, feelings, perspectives, and passion about art. It is in the collectors' view that the book contents represent an important complement to the collection, by reporting backstage information, views, ideas, and hopes, which eventually may offer a better understanding of the collection and of its links with today's world.
